And so it begins - the anatomy of New Work

 In February of 2016 I became a visiting resident artist in the Ceramics Studio at the American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA) in Pomona, California. I had just found out that I was scheduled for a show in the Studio Artists' Gallery for the second weekend in April.

At that time I had nothing! And only two months to make a whole new body of work! And that while having my staff and teaching duties at the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) where I am the assistant director of the Visual Arts Conservatory as well as teach all the ceramics class.  I also teach various night class Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoon and do several weekend shows. There was a bit of freak out there in the beginning.


I decided to work on my "Vegetable Series" of work in which I make plaster molds of organic forms and use them to construct sculptural vessels. See here I am using some 250 lbs. of plaster to make 10 new molds.

Each mold took me between 5-10 hours to make.  The molds are not pretty, but then they are just a means to an end product.
