John Wayne Orange County Airport (JWA) exhibit

Friday, August 12, 2022, I just got several pieces installed at the John Wayne/ Orange County airport.  The display will be up through March of 2023.

The display is at Gate 14, upstairs on the 2nd floor in the departure concourse between Terminals B & C. So, if you are flying in or out of JWA, take a little time and visit the exhibit.

These are pieces from my "Vegetable Series". They are made of low fire earthenware, with low fire glaze and metallic luster. The forms are cast from original paster molds that I have made from existing natural forms (like bell peppers, gourds, squash) and completed with wheel-thrown and hand-built elements. Decoration is free hand painting, and it takes a minimum of three kiln firings, or more, to complete the pieces.

May is a Busy month!

May is one of the busier months for the Flying Cup Clay studio. Here is what I have been doing. Open Garden Day in West Floral Park, Santa Ana.

One day event put on by the West Floral Park Neighborhood Association, where people visit some really wonderful gardens in the West Floral Park and Jack Fisher Park neighborhoods in the city of Santa Ana. Great weather for this event!

Balboa Island Art Walk 2019

This event had it all; rain, sun, wind! People still came out to walk the 1/4 mile along the sea wall and see the artists.

Patchwork Show, downtown Santa Ana, 2019.

Cold and drizzly for most of the day. People came out with umbrellas and made the best of the weather!

CRAFT REVOLUTION exhibit at OCCCA

ART SHOW: CRAFT REVOLUTION
Opening Receptions: February 2 and March 2, 2019 from 6-10pm
gallery open; Thursday-Sunday, February 2 - March 23, 2019. From 12pm-5pm

Juror: Staci Steinberger, Assistant Curator, Decorative Arts and Design, LACMA

CRAFT REVOLUTION held at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art in Downtown Santa Ana, CA.; shows works with the unity of inspiration and skill philosophers call “craft” --- in drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, ceramics, weaving, architectural plans and maquettes, interior design, furniture design, fashion design, photography, video, installation art, and objects d’art in all mediums, including wood, metal, stone, clay, paper, textiles and glass. Craft is the bond between concept and technique, the link between hand, mind, and heart. Our juror selected unusual, avant-garde, hybrid artworks that merge together, in a single piece, elements of fine art and the traditional crafts. Craft Revolution illuminates an important truth about contemporary art: we can no longer categorically separate craft, fine art, decorative art, and utilitarian, designer objects. Sophisticated, well-crafted objects --- no matter the medium --- inevitably elicit un frisson of desire.
